For all those keen on alternative yachting destinations, where you can experience best of local culture, cuisine, history and events, there is one Italian region that is pretty much unexplored by international guests visiting this fabulous country.  Most of the mega yachts and in general luxury boats tend to congregate or are chartered out in North East Sardinia around resorts such as Porto Cervo, Porto Rottondo and Olbia or indeed around Island of Capri, Naples and Positano within the Amalfi coast and indeed Italian Riviera around Positano which is also popular ONE WAY charter stop for those starting out or finishing alongside French Riviera and in particular Gulf of St Tropez and Cap d’Antibes. 

The best alternatives to that, Aeolian Islands around Sicily, Messina Strait with Siracusa, Catania and around Sicily and to some extent, at least for Italian and German tourists by majority Island of Elba and Tuscany. To avoid crowds and to ensure you do have a chance to experience best of Italy, you should consider luxury yacht charter out of Naples, but than turn North, North West towards Islands of Ponza and Ischia, or more accurately towards Isole Ponziane as Italians would say.  You would than explore remote, uninihabited or as they case may be with Ponza, luxury retreats.  Islands of Ventotene, Polmarola, Zannone and others await for those who wish to self-isolate, escape and yet still enjoy Italian lifestyle par-excellence.

Relationship between guests and the crew

When it comes to luxury yacht charters, this type of a vaction is rightfully seen as the ultimate holiday.  A luxury crewed yacht charter can be defined as any sailing vacation where at least a captain and hostess or stewardess are on board, taking care of all clients wishes. 
This can be on a smaller 40-45 ft sailing catamaran or an owner version of a 55ft monohull.  At the same time, this definition can also apply to charter of a 200 ft superyacht where there are more crew than guests. For the purpose of this blog, we can assume that all luxury yacht charters are those where service on yachts will usually be at a level of a 5* hotel, on smaller yachts, or 6* or 7* on 100 ft yacht charter boats or even the largest mega yachts.   The main rule in all situations, even though you are a guest and whatever the charter yacht you have hired, you should always treat the crew with respect.  One of the other main questions is how much to tip a charter boat crew.

Luxury crewed yacht charter holidays and super yacht charters are indeed very expensive.  As a result, many a yacht charter clients are keen to get the best price or indeed the largest boat for a set budget.

Waiting lastminute to ensure such a deal is therefore not only desired but a strategic plan.  This may turn very complicated at times, even if a suitable mega yacht will be found at the very last moment, not least as the super yacht crew many not have sufficient time to prepare for all the requirements of a luxury yacht charter.

In case you are looking for a specific size of the boat (ie. 30m) that is also of specific make (ie. Wally) and where possible available on an exact or preferred route between Portofino and St Tropez, for a period of 2 or 3 weeks at the end of July and first couple of weeks of August, finding such a super yacht on a lastminute basis may be very difficult.  We would probably suggest such specific requirements to be discussed at least 3 months and where possible 6 months before yacht charter embarkation. 
In case your requirements are less specific, and you can also settle for another 100′ yacht ie. Oyster or Southern Wind, with route not specified in advance but decided on a very lastminute, making the enquiry up to 1 month before yacht charter start could be a realistic enquiry.

Whatever your luxury crewed yacht charter plans, requirements or ideas are, do share them on time however.  Even if you are keen lastminute yacht charter client, discussing options a couple of times before maybe giving you a good insight into what deals are available months before and if indeed some are of interest.  It won’t cost enquiring and it could save a lot of money indeed.
