Safety Notice & Charter Availability

While Brazil is a spectacular and rewarding destination, charterers should be aware of the following:

  • Crime & Security: Increased crime rates, particularly in certain urban areas and the Amazon region, require vigilance. Follow local advice, secure valuables, and use reputable marinas and anchorages.
  • Insurance Limitations: Some regions, especially parts of the Amazon, may not be covered by standard travel or yacht insurance. We will therefore make suitable arrangements only where we can get a reasonable insurance cover.
  • Limited Yacht Selection: Due to regulatory, insurance, and safety considerations, the selection of luxury yachts available for charter in Brazil is more limited than in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. Early booking is recommended to secure the best vessels.

“The security situation in Brazil occasionally may raise questions among sailors. There are at times reports of crime and violence, especially in the cities. Some anchorages and bays have a bad reputation because of past incidents, too. The marinas and yacht clubs are in general very secure. We recommend you always follow the advice of your crew and occasionally get additional advice from local people and fellow cruisers.”
