Designed by Dubois Naval Architechts and built by Fitzroy yachts, Escapade is an aluminum fixed-keel sloop, fast cruising yacht with very beautiful exterior lines. The family which includes the couple and the son wanted her for an extended worldwide cruise which has now become a reality. Having worked relentlessly with the design team to incorporate their vision and creativity into the project, this sleek, strikingly looking world cruiser has a metallic champagne-coloured hull, obligatory black carbon mast, rigging and sails and the finest interior developed by team at the Design Unlimited studios.
As a complex, fully customized project, the owners and Dubois had to start with a blank page aiming at a 33m yacht, only to increase this immediately after all designs elements became known. Ed Dubois therefore explained:
‘’This client approached us about a year before we received the commission. A proposal followed and we were given the job at the 2011 Monaco Show. Investigation with regard to construction material (aluminum and composite), layout, overall appearance and very many details ensured. Sometimes a client wants a yacht which is very much a development of one of our existing designs.
Other times, a client has the confidence to give us the job because of our background, but wants something rather different. For this client, I think it was something else again, the owner had confidence because of our track record, ‘wanted something different’ but to go through the process step by step to analyse what was important for him and what could be developed from scratch. The owner was meticulous in every details and the yard responded with a high level of expertise and dedication. The result is a very sophisticated and successful vessel.’’
As a complex project, with a huge personal touch from the owners, the yacht is full of innovation and unique solutions. Escapade has a raised salon and fixed bimini, integrated into the yachts superstructure. On top, the cockpit is very spacious and features a bar, seating and large al-fresco dining table. Just behind are the twin helms which offer versatile spaces thanks to the curved glass mechanical sliding windows which allow the cockpit to be opened up or enclosed if preferred.
The whole deck is very neat and tidy, with lots of space for sun loungers aft and a tender storage that doubles as a Jacuzzi.
Below deck the yacht features a generous crew area and 1 master and 2 guest cabins. On top there is a day room which can be converted into a fourth cabin for additional guests. Fully customised interior was the result of owners wife demands on the design studio. The whole of interior was isolated from the hull, which resulted that acoustic surveyors defined it as the quietest interior space ever found on a boat built in New Zealand.
Overal, this is a very beautiful super sail yacht with highly advanced carbon aerofoil rigging by Hall Spars, which provided continuous rigging for reduced wind resistance, a first of a kind on a yacht of this size. If you are interested in viewing this yacht or are keen to charter her at the next available opportunity, you are bound to be positively surprised.
