Heesen Yachts launched first 140’ superyacht with Hull Vane® !

Published by Editorial Team on 23rd September 2014

On Friday 29th August, at their facility in Oss, Heesen Yachts launched their latest super yacht named MY ALIVE. She is the first of a kind super yacht equipped with under water foil (technically called Hull Vane®) which allows her to make dramatic advancement in performance. This luxury crewed motor yacht has sub-sea wing that harnesses waves to produce power which combined with the fast displacement hull and conventional diesel engines produce remarkable results.  This has been proven during independent research conducted by Van Oossanen Naval Architects at two of the world’s most respected hydrodynamic laboratories: Wolfson Unit and Marin.

As a result, M/Y Alive is 35 per cent more efficient than any other motor yacht of her size and 35 per cent less power is needed to produce almost 16 knots top speed in flat sea conditions.

In seas with 1-2 metre waves, rather than hindering her performance, the yacht’s Hull Vane® technology converts the movement and generates 20 per cent more thrust while at the same time comfort is improved as the pitching is reduced by 40 per cent. Like an aircraft, as the yacht moves through water, the wing produces lift. This patented Hull Vane® technology converts this movement into thrust which in turn allowed the Owner of M/Y Alive to prioritise economy and speed. With an exceptional range of 4.000 miles, over 750 miles come free of charge, thanks to her remarkably frugal fuel consumption that is 30 per cent less than on a conventional displacement yacht. Luxury crewed yacht charter guests, should the yacht be offered for mega yacht charter holidays in the future, should finally profit from an unseen fuel saving efficiency during their cruise.

Perry van Oossanen comments: “We are delighted and proud to see that the first luxury vessel equipped with Hull Vane® is ready to sail the oceans. Heesen Yachts is proving once again to be a shipyard that dares to innovate by investing in smart technology.”

The bold exterior lines of M/Y Alive have been created by Frank Laupman from Omega Architects, who is also responsible for her interior design.  Laupman has created a new bow design that combines a lower hull profile, and matches sea keeping behaviour with a relatively short overall length. M/Y Alive can accommodate up to twelve guests in the outdoor and indoor convivial areas. The 45 square metre open sun deck is perfect for relaxation throughout the day. The yacht boasts two large suites: the first traditionally located on the main deck forward, and the second one on the wheelhouse deck. The latter is a spectacular circular room with a centred king size bed, ensuite bathroom, dressing room and gymnasium. The central positioning of the bed allows stunning, uninterrupted views of the sea thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The 30 square metre aft terrace is equipped with a breakfast table and lounge seats, completing the functionality of the Owner’s deck.

The captain commented on the launch of M/Y Alive: “She is a wonderful vessel that combines the latest achievements in the world of technology and design. For three years we have worked closely with the team at the shipyard to build a vessel that is truly personal and created to meet the highest standards of lifestyle at sea.”

M/Y Alive will undergo extensive sea trials in the North Sea later in fall and will be delivered to her Owner on October 31, 2014.

More about Heesen Yachts:

Founded by Frans Heesen in 1978 in the town of Oss, the Netherlands, Heesen Yachts was the first Dutch shipyard to employ aluminium alloy for the building of yacht hulls. Since then, the yard has become a world leader in the design, engineering and construction of high performance, all-aluminium motor yachts and is increasingly known for delivering pedigree yachts at reduced delivery times. In 1992 Heesen Yachts expanded their business to include the construction of traditional displacement, long-range steel-hulled yachts, and today the company can also deliver magnificent private yachts within the 37 to 70 metres size range, and beyond.

The current fleet which is to be found across all world oceans, includes aluminium, steel, displacement, semi-displacement and the new revolutionary fast displacement models. Additional elevent yachts are currently under construction and their deliveries span through to 2017 with new orders happily being taken.

MY ALIVE is not expected to be available for luxury crewed yacht charters in the Caribbean this winter. She may be offered for charter as of 2015 however, thus if you are interested you can enquire about her availability and charter offering.
